Many travels about America
Doug has photographed some beautiful places over the past few years. He enjoyes capturing the scenic vistas of California and the monuments of Washington D.C. It was a great pleasure to photograph the windy city of Chicago. It was a dreary day, in Doug's words "a perfect day", and he captured the skyline with the clouds which is a one in a million shot. California with its beautiful vistas makes it easy to photograph. The skyline photos of San Diego are great and in his words, "spectacular, epic and worthwhile." While in Washington D.C. on a cold weekend, photos of the capital building show its reflection in the foreground. Washington D.C. is a photographer's dream, you can never take a bad photo, he proved it with his photos on that trip.
Black and white photos
Doug has a keen eye to visualize a black and white photo. He has loved to do black and white drawings in charcoal and pen & ink since he was a little kid so it is easy for him to visualize a black and white photo. People have commented on his work saying things comparing him to Ansel Adams. Now, Doug doesn't think he is even close to Adams caliber but it is a beautiful thing to say about his photography. Some of his work is so simplistic that it just works better in black and white. He will be the first to tell you that he is just lucky somedays to be in the right place at the right time. As all of us know photography is all about timing.
People
Doug loves to photograph people and has been in love with photographing people since he bought his first light set. He truly loves to photo people in black and white and enjoys capturing the true essence of the people he photographs. He will try new things and make the person comfortable in any way he can while photographing them.
